Description of Aldomet

Aldomet has Methyldopa as its active ingredient, and it belongs to the class of drugs known as antihypertensive drugs. You can buy Aldomet in the form of oral tablets, available in 125, 250 and 500mg strengths. Each tablet also contains inactive ingredients including cellulose, calcium disodium edetate, guar gum, ethylcellulose, collidial silidon dioxide, iron oxide, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, magnesium stearate, titanium dioxide, talc and propylene glycol.

Indications & Dosage of Aldomet

Aldomet is used for treating high blood pressure in hypertensive patients. Keeping blood pressure under control helps avert heart attacks, strokes or kidney problems. The medicine works by relaxing your blood vessels so that blood can flow through them easily. In this way, your heart can beat more easily and slowly.

During the first two days, you will be advised to take Aldomet 250mg two to three times a day. After that, the dosage can be adjusted depending on your response to treatment until the desired results are achieved. The daily dose you receive may range from Aldomet 500mg to 2g per day, divided into 2 to 4 doses. The maximum dosage that a person can receive is Aldomet 3g per day.

For pediatric patients, the recommended daily dosage is Aldomet 10mg/kg per day, divided into 2 to 4 doses. The maximum dosage is Aldomet 65mg/kg per day or Aldomet 3g per day.
