Description of Arimidex

Arimidex is a prescription medication for postmenopausal women suffering from breast cancer. The active ingredient (anastrozole) in Arimidex helps lower estrogen levels in the body, which eventually leads to the death of certain estrogen dependent cancer cells. Anastrozole is an aromatase inhibitor that selectively prevents the primary enzyme from aiding estrogen synthesis.

Arimidex 1mg oral tablets are available for patients who have been instructed by a doctor to buy Arimidex. The inactive ingredients present in each 1mg tablet are: sodium starch glycolate, magnesium stearate, povidone, polyethylene glycol, hydroxypropylmethylcellulose, lactose and titanium dioxide.

Indications & Dosage of Arimidex

The primary conditions for which Arimidex is indicated are:

  • Hormone receptor-positive early breast cancer in postmenopausal women who have undergone surgery
  • Metastatic breast cancer of the hormone receptor-positive type or unknown type
  • Advanced breast cancer which has progressed tamoxifen therapy

Arimidex doses as prescribed by the doctor should be adhered to by cancer patients, since incorrect usage of this drug will tamper with its efficacy. Patients who buy Arimidex generally administer this drug in individualized doses.

The usual recommended dosage of Arimidex is a single 1mg tablet taken orally once a day. In early cancer treatment, this treatment often continues for a minimum of five years. For patients being treated for advanced cancer, Arimidex may require to be continued until metastasis or tumour progression.

This drug can be stored in its original container between 20 and 25 degrees centigrade.

Side Effects & Interactions of Arimidex

The mild side effects of Arimidex that are usually temporary in nature are more common than the serious adverse effects of this drug. An inclusive list of side effects that pose a minimum threat to health is given below:

  • Abdominal pain, diarrhea or constipation
  • Injury, joint and bone pain

The more serious side effects that require prompt medical attention are as follows:

  • Swelling of the glands
  • Numbness over a wide area
  • Symptoms of dermatitis (peeling skin, sores and rashes, burning, inflammation, etc.)
  • Problems with breathing, chest pain
  • Speech, vision and balance problems

There may be more unwanted effects accompanying the use of Arimidex. Patients should discuss the possibilities and severities of such effects with a doctor before using this drug. It is also necessary for them to provide their doctors with a complete list of all the drugs that are being consumed by them currently to avoid major and negative interactions. Some drugs known to interact severely with Arimidex are: drugs containing hormones, contraceptive drugs and tamoxifen.

Arimidex is a pregnancy category D drug, which implies that it causes potential harm to the fetus. This drug should not be used during pregnancy.
