Description of Biaxin

Biaxin is used to treat respiratory and skin bacterial infections . It is also used with other drugs for the treatment of stomach ulcers that occur as a result of Helicobacter pylori. The generic name of the drug is Clarithromycin

You must buy Biaxin only as per the prescription of your doctor. You may use the drug in the form of tablets or liquid (oral suspension). You can take Biaxin orally either before or after food. The tablets must be swallowed along with fluids. You must not chew, crush or break Biaxin tablets. Shake the oral suspension well before use. Use a measuring spoon or cup to measure the dose.

Indications & Dosage of Biaxin

Biaxin works by stopping the growth of bacteria in the body and fights bacterial infections.

The dosage of the drug depends on the condition of the patient. The recommended dose of Biaxin for adults is 500 mg two times a day for 14 days. After 14 days, the dosage could be reduced to 400 mg. Biaxin is usually given for 7-14 days to treat stomach ulcers. Don’t skip any dose of the drug as it will increase the risk of infection. Try to take the drug at the same time every day to get the best results. You may feel better after a few doses when the infection is cured, but you must not stop treatment abruptly. Don’t take an overdose of Biaxin. In case of an overdose, seek immediate medical attention. The side effects of a Biaxin overdose are vomiting, severe stomach pain, and nausea.
