Description of Cipro XR

Cipro XR is a prescription medication containing ciprofloxacin. Ciprofloxacin is an antibacterial drug used for a wide range of medical conditions. The extended release tablets are used to treat bacterial infections that occur in the urinary tract (i.e., in the bladder, ureter, urethra or kidney). The drug class to which Cipro XR belongs is called fluoroquinolone.

Patients should only buy Cipro XR 500mg or 1000mg if they are not allergic to its active ingredient, ciprofloxacin, or any of the following inactive components: magnesium stearate, crospovidone, polyethylene glycol, hypromellose, succinic acid, titanium dioxide and silica colloidal anhydrous.

Ciprofloxacin extended release tablets (as Cipro XR is generically called) work by inhibiting the binding mechanism in the DNA of the bacteria and preventing them from duplicating.

Ciprofloxacin is available in various forms. They are not interchangeable. Cipro XR is particularly indicated for the treatment of the following conditions:

  • Acute cystitis, commonly known as uncomplicated urinary tract infection ;
