Description of Clarinex

Clarinex is an antihistamine that blocks the action of histamines, which are responsible for causing allergies in the human body. The active ingredient in Clarinex is Desloratadine.

The medicine is given to the patient in the form of an oral solution or tablets. In some cases, it is also used for the treatment of chronic hives.

Indications & Dosage of Clarinex

Clarinex is used for relieving symptoms of seasonal or year-round allergies, including watery eyes, itchy eyes, sneezing, or a runny nose.

The dosage of Clarinex recommended to you depends on your age and the type of allergy you have. Each 5ml of Clarinex syrup contains 2.5mg of Desloratadine. Clarinex is also available in 5mg tablets

If you are an adult, you will be advised to take Clarinex 10ml (equal to 5mg) or one 5mg tablet once a day. Children between the ages of 6 to 11 years should be given Clarinex 5ml (equal to 2.5mg) a day. Infants aged between 1 to 5 years are usually given Clarinex 2.5ml (equal to 1.25mg) a day. Babies from 6 to 11 months of age should be given Clarinex 2ml per day. This drug is not meant to be given to children less than 6 months of age.

Taking Amiodarone may increase the risks of developing fast or irregular heartbeat during Clarinex treatment. Therefore, do not buy Clarinex if you are already using Amiodarone.

Also do not take the drugs ketoconazole or azithromycin while using Clarinex, as risks of developing serious side effects may increase significantly.

Warnings & Precautions of Clarinex

Your doctor will not recommend you to buy Clarinex if you have an allergy to any of the medicine’s ingredients, or if you have a liver or kidney disease.

Limit alcohol intake during Clarinex treatment, as it may worsen the drug’s side effects. Although Clarinex does not make you dizzy, you may experience dizziness if you take a higher dose than prescribed or if you take it with alcohol. If you become dizzy after taking Clarinex syrup, you should avoid doing activities that require you to be completely alert. Such activities may include operating a machine and driving a vehicle.
