Description of Compazine

Compazine is a medication with the generic name Prochlorperazine. It belongs to a group of medicines known as Phenothiazines. Compazine is available in different forms, which includes a tablet for oral use, a sustained release tablet formulation (known as Spansule) for oral use, a vial for injection, a suppository for rectal use, and syrup for oral use. The tablet is supplied in two strengths such as Compazine 5mg and 10mg. The sustained release capsule is also supplied in two strengths, Compazine Spansule 10mg and 15mg. The drug is a prescription medication, so you need to consult your doctor before you buy Compazine online.

Indications & Dosage of Compazine

Compazine is indicated in the treatment of psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia. It is also used to control severe vomiting, nausea and anxiety.

Prochlorperazine, the main active ingredient in Compazine, blocks the messages to a part of the brain that is responsible for nausea and vomiting. It also changes the levels of chemicals (neurotransmitters) that affect the brain.

The dosage of Compazine depends on several factors such as the form of drug prescribed for treatment, the medical condition being treated, other medical conditions a patient is suffering from, and other drugs he/she is using.

The recommended oral dose of Compazine for the treatment of schizophrenia, nausea and vomiting is 5mg or 10mg, 3-4 times daily. The recommended dose of Compazine rectal suppository for the treatment of nausea and vomiting is 25mg. One 25mg rectal suppository is inserted through the rectal route two times daily.
