Description of Coreg CR

Coreg CR is a prescription beta-blocker. Patients suffering from problems related to the circulatory system are usually instructed to buy Coreg CR. Carvedilol, the active ingredient in this drug, also has the properties of an alpha-blocker and works in the following ways to control high blood pressure and related heart disorders:

  • It blocks norepinephrine receptors present in the heart muscles and thus reduces workload, relaxes the heart muscles, and prevents forceful contractions and rapid heart rate;
  • Carvedilol acts on adrenergic receptors. By blocking them, it keeps the blood vessels relaxed and the blood pressure low, thereby enabling the heart pump blood with more ease;

The generic name of Coreg CR is Carvedilol phosphate. It is available in the form of10mg, 20mg, 40mg and 80mg controlled-release oral capsules. The inactive ingredients include: magnesium stearate, hydrogenated vegetable oil, hydrogenated castor oil, microcrystalline cellulose, methacrylic acid copolymers, povidone and crospovidone.

Indications & Dosage of Coreg CR

Coreg CR is indicated in the following medical conditions:

  • Heart failure: cardiomyopathic or ischemic chronic heart failure (mild to severe) in combination with other medications such as diuretics, digitalis and ACE inhibitors;
  • Left ventricular dysfunction succeeding myocardial infarction;
  • Hypertension;

The dosage needs to be highly individualized for patients who buy Coreg CR. Sometimes, doctors may advise patients to switch to Coreg controlled-release capsules from the immediate release tablets. Dosage adjustments need to be made with caution in such cases. Patients need to be regularly monitored during treatment, and no changes in dosage must be made without prior consultation with the doctor.

Coreg CR capsules should be swallowed whole with water and food or sprinkled on room temperature applesauce and consumed immediately once every day.
