Description of Denosyl
Denosyl is a nutritional supplement with the generic name S-Adenosylmethionine. It belongs to a group of health supplements for pets. Denosyl is available in the form of a chewable and a non-chewable tablet. It is supplied in different strengths such as Denosyl 90mg, Denosyl 225mg and Denosyl 425mg. You may buy Denosyl online as per your veterinarian’s recommendation. The nutritional supplement has been researched and evaluated in clinical trials (in US) for safe use in dogs and cats.
Indications & Dosage of Denosyl
Denosyl is indicated to increase glutathione levels in a pet’s body. It is not intended to cure liver disease in dogs, cats or other animals.
S-Adenosylmethionine (SAMe), the active ingredient in the nutritional supplement, is produced naturally by the liver from the amino acid Methionine. When your pet’s liver function is compromised due to any medical condition, it affects the production of glutathione thereby leading to reduced levels of Glutathione in the pet’s body. Glutathione is an important antioxidant that improves liver function and also fights deadly toxins present in the pet’s body. Besides improving liver function, Denosyl is also known to aid cell repair and protect liver cells from cell death.
The dosage of Denosyl depends on individual needs of the pet. Your veterinarian will recommend the right amount of Denosyl after evaluating your pet’s response and medical condition. The dosage of Denosyl also depends on your pet’s weight.
You need to administer Denosyl to your pet at least one hour before feeding it as the absorption of the nutritional supplement is reduced if given along with a meal. Denosyl may get stuck into your pet’s throat, so give your pet some water after administering it. Your veterinarian may recommend Denosyl for your pet only for a short period of time.
Side Effects & Interactions of Denosyl
Denosyl is a very safe nutritional supplement for pets. There are hardly any side effects reported. However, the possibility of side effects in some pets cannot be completely ruled out. In rare cases, Denosyl may cause vomiting in your pet. If you notice your pet vomiting after administering the medication, you need to consult your veterinarian immediately.
Denosyl may also cause allergic reactions in some pets. You need to look for signs of allergic reactions such as increased restlessness, agitation, or itching in your pet. You should not buy Denosyl if you have noticed an allergic reaction after using Denosyl in any form in the past.
If your are giving two medicines concurrently to your pet, there is a chance that both drugs may interact with each other and cause side effects in your pet. Inform your veterinarian if you are already administering drugs such as Fluoxetine, Amitriptyline, Tramadol, Clomipramine, or Mitaban Dip to your pet.
Before you buy Denosyl, tell the veterinarian about every medicine you are giving to your pet which includes prescription drugs, over the counter medications and nutritional supplements.
Warnings & Precautions of Denosyl
You need to give the tablet whole to your pet. Do not break it or crush it to facilitate its administration. Do not give Denosyl in any form if your pet is allergic to S-Adenosylmethionine. The nutritional supplement is sensitive to moisture and heat, so store it in a cool, dark and dry place.
