Description of Detrol LA

Detrol LA helps in treating an overactive bladder. It helps in dealing with various conditions such as leaking of urine, feeling of urgent urination and frequently visiting bathroom. It relaxes the bladder muscles, and thereby enhances the controlling ability. Detrol LA belongs to the class of medicines called antispasmodics. The generic name of the drug is Tolterodine.

Detrol LA is available in two strengths: Detrol LA 2mg and Detrol LA 4 mg.

The non-medical ingredients of this medicine include Oleic Acid, FD&C Blue No.2, Starch, Hypromellose, medium chain Triglycerides, Ammonium Hydroxide, Opacode White S-1-7085 (Propylene Glycol, Shellac Glaze, Ammonium Hydroxide, Titanium dioxide, and Simethicone), Ethyl cellulose, Sucrose and Gelatin.

Indications & Dosage of Detrol LA

The instructions of the doctor must be followed while administering Detrol LA. Usually, the recommended dose is 4 mg once every day. However, depending on individual’s response to the medicine, it can be reduced to 2 mg per day. The medicine has to be taken with water. It can be taken with or without food. In case a dose is missed, it must be taken as soon as you remember unless it is time for the next dose. Do not take 2 doses at a time to make up for the missed dose. It has to be stored at room temperature.

Warnings & Precautions of Detrol LA

You should not buy Detrol LA if you are allergic to its ingredients, particularly Tolterodine. You must also inform your doctor if you have blockage in stomach/intestines, or face difficulty urinating. Your doctor must also be aware of your medical conditions, particularly those relating to liver disease, myasthenia gravis, glaucoma, kidney disease and Long QT Syndrome.

Consuming Detrol LA can lead to dizziness which can reduce your ability to use machinery. Thus, you should be careful while undertaking activities that require alertness, such as driving.

It is unknown whether drug is safe to use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Thus, you must discuss with your doctor if you are pregnant or breast feeding before using Detrol LA.
