Description of Diamox Sequels

Diamox Sequels is a diuretic, and its active ingredient is Acetazolamide. Apart from this, the medicine also contains certain inactive ingredients, including talc, sodium lauryl sulfate and microcrystalline cellulose. You can buy Diamox Sequels in the form of oral capsules.

Indications & Dosage of Diamox Sequels

Diamox Sequels is an oral medication used for preventing or reducing symptoms of altitude sickness, such as headache, nausea, tiredness, shortness of breath and dizziness, especially if you are climbing above 10,000 feet. It is usually given to a patient if a slow ascent is not possible.

When used with other drugs, Diamox Sequels can also be used for treating open-angle glaucoma or periodic paralysis. It works by decreasing the amount of fluid that gets built up inside the eye of the patient suffering from glaucoma. When used for treating altitude sickness, it works as a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor, which is a protein that is responsible for causing the symptoms. The drug works by reducing activities of this protein. Diamox Sequels can also be used as part of a treatment plan for treating seizure disorders and congestive heart failure.

For the treatment of glaucoma, your doctor will advise you to take one Diamox Sequels 500mg capsule two times a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. If the desired effects are not achieved with this dosage, you may be advised to take one Diamox Sequels 250mg capsule every 4 hours.

For treating altitude sickness, you may be advisable to take Diamox Sequels 500 to 1000mg per day, divided into 2 doses. In situations of rapid ascent, like a military or rescue operation, the dosage may be as high as Diamox Sequels 1000mg.

Side Effects & Interactions of Diamox Sequels

Patients using Diamox Sequels may commonly experience the following symptoms:

  • Drowsiness, fatigue, dizziness, weakness
  • Decreased appetite, constipation, vomiting, nausea, changes in taste, diarrhea
  • Mild tremors, nervousness
  • Confusion, headache
  • Worsening gout
  • Increased skin sensitivity to sunlight
  • Ringing in the ears, hearing problems
  • Vision changes
  • Uncontrolled blood sugar, especially if you are diabetic

Fever, throat soreness, unusual bruising or bleeding, groin or side pain, rash, tremors or tingling in the feet or hands are serious side effects of the drug. Seek medical attention immediately if you develop any of these symptoms.

Do not buy Diamox Sequels if you are already using cyclosporine, pyrimidine or diflunisal, as they may interfere with each other’s functioning and increase each other’s side effects. If you are using aspirin, choline salicylate or magnesium salicylate, Diamox Sequels may interact with these, and your doctor may need to monitor you during treatment. In case you are taking lithium such as Eskalith or Lithobid, Diamox Sequels may decrease lithium levels in your blood, and special tests or dosage adjustments may be needed. Therefore, inform your doctor beforehand if you are taking any of these drugs at present.

Warnings & Precautions of Diamox Sequels
