Diovan HCT is a combination drug used to treat conditions of high blood pressure, either as a monotherapy or with other medications. The two active ingredients present in Diovan HCT are valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide. Valsartan belongs to the group of angiotensin receptor antagonists. It works by preventing the action of certain chemicals which lead to constriction of blood vessels. Hydrochlorothiazide is a water pill which reduces fluid retention by preventing excessive salt being absorbed by the body. The generic name of Diovan HCT is Valsartan and Hydrochlorothiazide.
