Description of Ditropan

The generic name of Ditropan is oxybutynin chloride. It belongs to a therapeutic group of drugs known as antispasmodic and anticholinergic medications. Ditropan is available in the form of an oral tablet. Each tablet contains 5 mg of oxybutynin chloride. It is not advisable to buy Ditropan online without consulting a doctor as it is a prescription drug.

Indications & Dosage of Ditropan

Ditropan is used in the treatment of muscle spasms in the urinary tract and the bladder. It is prescribed by a doctor to provide relief to patients suffering from symptoms of bladder instability or reflex neurogenic bladder. The drug is highly effective for people who experience symptoms such as frequent or urgent urination, urine leakage, dysuria, and increased night urination. Ditropan has a direct antispasmodic effect on smooth muscles of the bladder and urinary tract and slows down the muscarinic action of acetylcholine on the muscles.

You must follow the specific instructions of your doctor regarding the dosage. The recommended dosage of Ditropan for an adult is 1 pill taken thrice daily for a period of 2 years. It is advisable not to take the medication in larger amounts or take it for a longer duration than prescribed by your doctor. It is best to follow the directions as mentioned on the prescription label.

You can take Ditropan with or without food. Taking it with a full glass of water helps it work effectively to relax the smooth muscles of the bladder. It is recommended that you take the pill at the same time every day.

Side Effects & Interactions of Ditropan

Mild to severe side effects may be noticed in some patients taking Ditropan. However, not everyone taking the oral tablet is likely to experience discomfort or severe side effects due to its usage.

Less serious side effects associated with Ditropan are: dizziness, dry mouth diarrhea, mild constipation, nausea, headache, runny nose, dry eyes, blurred vision, mild stomach pain, weakness, and sleep troubles. It is best to consult your doctor in case these mild side effects persist for a longer duration of time or cause irritation.

Some of the serious side effects associated with Ditropan include severe stomach ache, constipation, hot and dry skin, and extreme thirst. Sometimes, a person taking the tablet may also experience a severe burning sensation or pain while urinating. The frequency of urination may also get hampered in some patients due to the use of Ditropan.

In a few cases, Ditropan is also known to cause allergic reactions. Swelling of the face, breathing problems, inflammation of the lips, tongue, or throat, hives, or closing of the throat are some allergic reactions that a person may experience after taking a dose of Ditropan. It is advisable to stop the use of the drug and seek medical help immediately upon noticing any serious side effects or allergic reactions after taking a dose of Ditropan.

Ditropan may interact with other drugs you are using and cause health problems. It may interact with drugs such as darifenacin (Enablex), flavoxate (Urispas), mepenzolate, thiordazine. There are other medications that may interact with Ditropan.

It is advisable to inform the doctor about any other prescription and over-the-counter medicines you are taking before you buy Ditropan.

Warnings & Precautions of Ditropan

Ditropan should be avoided if you are allergic to the active ingredients in the medication. People with other medical conditions such as a blockage in the digestive tract or uncontrolled narrow-angle glaucoma are advised not to use it. Inform your doctor about your past medical history of kidney disease, ulcerative colitis, enlarged prostate, liver disease, or muscle disorder before you buy Ditropan.
