Description of Divigel

The generic name of Divigel is estradiol topical. Divigel is available in the form of a colorless and odorless gel, lotion and spray. Divigel is available in three strengths 0.25mg, 0.5 mg, and 1mg. It is a prescription medication and as such, you cannot buy Divigel online without consulting a doctor.

Indications & Dosage of Divigel

Divigel is used to treat the symptoms of menopause such as night sweats, hot flashes and vaginal burning. It is prescribed by a doctor to patients suffering from severe hot flashes. This medication helps in reducing the frequency and severity of uncomfortable symptoms associated with menopause. The drug contains estrogen, which regulates several processes in the body.

You must follow the specific instructions of your doctor regarding the dosage. Divigel should not be used in smaller or larger amounts and for longer duration than as prescribed by the doctor. Divigel should be applied only to clean, dry and unbroken skin.

The recommended dose of Divigel for patients suffering from painful symptoms of menopause is once daily on the skin of either the right or left upper thigh. The gel is recommended to be used at the same time each day. It is best to follow the directions as mentioned on the prescription label.

You can apply the entire contents of a unit dose packet of Divigel each day. However, it can be applied on alternate days in order to avoid any skin irritation.

Side Effects & Interactions of Divigel

Divigel may cause mild to severe side effects and allergic reactions in some patients. However, not everyone applying the gel is likely to experience pain or severe side effects due to its usage.

Less serious side effects associated with Divigel are: vomiting, acne or skin color changes, swollen breasts, loss of appetite, weight gain, depression, nausea, dizziness, vaginal discomfort, dryness or pain, decreased sex drive, breakthrough bleeding, swelling, difficulty having an orgasm, migraine headaches, vaginal itching or discharge. Consult your doctor if the mild side effects cause pain for a longer duration.

Some of the serious side effects associated with Divigel include chest pain, sweating, general ill feeling, sudden numbness or weakness, confusion, or problems with vision, speech, or balance, abnormal vaginal bleeding, swelling, warmth, or redness in one or both legs, lumps in the breasts, and jaundice. In some cases, patients also have difficulty having an orgasm.

In a few cases, Divigel is also known to cause allergic reactions such as hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, tongue, lips, or throat hives, or closing of the throat. Stop the use of the drug and seek medical help immediately if you start experiencing serious side effects or allergic reactions after applying Divigel.

Divigel may interact with other drugs such as St. John's wort, warfarin (Coumadin, Jantoven), ritonavir (Norvir, Kaletra), carbamazepine, Phenobarbital, clarithromycin (Biaxin) and an antifungal medication such as ketoconazole.

Inform your doctor about all other medications, including prescription and over-the-counter drugs, herbal supplements, and vitamins you are using before you buy Divigel.

Warnings & Precautions of Divigel

You should avoid Divigel if you have medical conditions such as a bleeding disorder, hormone-related cancer, liver disease, breast or uterine cancer, and abnormal vaginal bleeding. Your doctor must be aware of your complete medical history, especially if you had a stroke or heart attack. Pregnant women should buy Divigel only after consulting their doctor.
