Description of Duricef

Duricef has Cefadroxil as its active ingredient, and it falls under the group of drugs known as cephalosporin antibiotics. You can buy Duricef in the form of oral capsules, oral tablets as well as oral suspension. Oral tablets also contain inactive ingredients including microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, titanium dioxide, simethicone emulsion, polysorbate 80 and polyethylene glycol. Inactive ingredients in the oral suspension include polysorbate 80, sucrose, xanthan gum and sodium benzoate. Oral capsules contain magnesium stearate, gelatin and titanium dioxide as inactive ingredients. Do not use Duricef if you have an allergy to any of these active or inactive ingredients.

Indications & Dosage of Duricef

Duricef is used for the treatment of different bacterial infections, including urinary tract infections, skin or skin structure infections, tonsillitis or pharyngitis. The drug works by fighting the susceptible bacteria responsible for the infection. In this way, the growth and spread of the bacteria is stopped, and the infection is treated.

Your doctor will recommend you to take Duricef 500mg one or two times a day, depending the type and severity of your bacterial infection. Take the drug with food in order to prevent a stomach upset. In order to maintain constant levels of Duricef in your body, try to take the drug at almost the same time each day.

Side Effects & Interactions of Duricef

Duricef patients can commonly experience stomach upset, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting. Some patients may also encounter muscle stiffness or tightness, hyperactivity, joint pain, restlessness, mild itching or skin rash, vaginal discharge, vaginal itching or unpleasant taste in mouth. These side effects can be easily managed with or without medical help. However, inform your doctor at once if any of these become intolerable.

In some cases, Duricef can lead to Clostridium difficile associated diarrhea, which you can experience even after weeks or months after starting the treatment. Symptoms of such a condition include mucus or blood in stools, stomach or abdominal cramping or pain or persistent diarrhea.

Using Duricef for a long time can also lead to oral thrush or a new vaginal yeast infection. Immediately notify your doctor if you encounter symptoms of such a condition, including fever, confusion, persistent sore throat, yellowing of eyes or skin, dark urine, clay-colored stools, easy bruising or bleeding, mental or mood changes or decreased or increased urination.

Your doctor will not recommend you to buy Duricef if you are already using probenecid, or if you recently had a live bacterial vaccination. Apart from these, inform your doctor about all the medicines you are taking at present, including prescription drugs or over-the-counter medicines, herbal preparations or diet supplements.

Warnings & Precautions of Duricef

Do not use Duricef if you have an intestinal disease or kidney problem. Elderly patients should use this drug with caution, as they have increased risks of developing serious side effects of the drug.

Breastfeeding mothers should not use Duricef, as it may pass into breast milk and harm the nursing infant. Pregnant women should also use Duricef with caution, as it is not yet known whether or not it is safe for such women and their children.
