Flovent Diskus is prescribed by doctors for those patients who get regular asthma attacks. This medication helps in preventing asthmatic attacks. Please note, however, that this drug will not be able to stop an attack if the asthma attack has already started. Flovent Diskus belongs to the family of corticosteroid and prevents asthma attacks by decreasing the swelling in the bronchial tubes or the irritation in the breathing tubes situated in the lung. This helps a patient to prevent or control any asthma symptoms well beforehand.
Flovent Diskus needs to be administered through oral inhalation and is recommended for patients above the age of 4 years. The recommended standard dose for children between 4 and 11 years is Flovent Diskus 50 mcg twice a day and the highest recommended dose is Flovent Diskus 100 mcg twice a day. The recommended starting dose for adolescents and adults is Flovent Diskus 100 mcg twice a day. The highest dosage for adults can vary from Flovent Diskus 500 mcg to 1,000 mcg twice a day.
