Description of Inhibace
Inhibace belongs to the class of drugs known as ACE inhibitors. The active ingredient in this drug is Cilazapril, a potent drug commonly used for treating hypertension and congestive heart failure. You must buy Inhibace only as per a doctor’s recommendation and take it strictly as advised.
The inactive ingredients present in Inhibace are corn starch, iron oxide, hydroxypropyl ethylcellulose, sodium stearyfumarate, lactose, titanium dioxide and talc. The oral tablets are available in two strengths - Inhibace 2.5mg and Inhibace 5mg.
Indications & Dosage of Inhibace
Inhibace is indicated for the treatment of hypertension and chronic congestive heart failure (CHF). It works by relaxing the blood vessels and making the heart pump blood more efficiently.
In case of congestive heart failure (CHF), Inhibace is used in combination with either diuretics or Digoxin, or both. For the treatment of hypertension, it is usually taken in combination with a diuretic such as Thiazide. The initial dosage is Inhibace 2.5 mg to be taken once daily. For CHF, the recommended dosage is 5 mg, which can be gradually increased to Inhibace 10 mg depending on the patient’s response.
Inhibace should ideally be taken at the same time every day, with or without food. Store the tablets at room temperature, away from moisture and light.
Side Effects & Interactions of Inhibace
Certain mild to moderate side effects reported by approximately 1 % of Cilazapril patients are:
- persistent cough
- abdominal discomfort, indigestion/diarrhea
- excessive weakness/tiredness without any apparent reason
- headache accompanied by nausea
Most of these symptoms are mild and do not require medical intervention. However some of the less common but serious side effects associated with Inhibace are:
- Abdominal pain &swelling
- difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
- Tinnitus
- Chest pain
- Blood in the stools, painful urination
- Blurred vision
- Skin rashes or symptoms of jaundice
In case you observe these or the below listed symptoms when taking Inhibace, discontinue the medication and seek immediate medical help:
- Signs of angioedema such as swelling of the lips, tongue, throat or face
- Sudden breathing problems
- Signs of kidney failure such as anuria or passing very little urine
Cilazapril is known to interact with a large number of drugs. It is best to avoid using the following medications when taking Inhibace as it can lead to adverse reactions:
- Diuretics (other than the one recommended by your health practitioner)
- Immunosuppressants such as Cyclosporine
- Allopurinol
- Potassium supplements and potassium sparing diuretics
- Beta blockers
- NSAID’s
- Anti-diabetic drugs including insulin
