Description of Junel

Junel is a combination of Ethinyl Estradiol and Norethindrone Acetate. It belongs to the class of oral contraceptives, and it is available in the form of oral pills. These pills are available in two strengths: yellow tablets contain 20mcg Ethinyl Estradiol and 1mg Norethindrone Acetate, and pink tablets contain 30mcg Ethinyl Estradiol and 1.5mg Norethrindrone Acetate. The medicine also contains inactive ingredients including acacia, lactose monohydrate, compressible sugar, pregelatinized starch and magnesium stearate.

Indications & Dosage of Junel

Junel is an oral contraceptive used for preventing a pregnancy. This drug is to be used only by women. In some cases, your doctor may also recommend you to buy Junel in order to make your periods regular, decrease blood loss and pain during periods, and reduce risks of ovarian cysts. Junel works by preventing ovulation during your periods, so that you do not get pregnant. It also makes your vaginal fluid thicker, so that the sperm does not reach the eggs and fertilization does not take place.

Junel has 21 tablets in its pack. You have to take one pill every day, usually at the same time each day. After the 21 tablet pack is finished, you will have to maintain a gap of one week, during which you are likely to have your menstrual periods. You will have to start another pack on the same day of the week on which the last pack was finished.

Side Effects & Interactions of Junel

Breast tenderness, breast enlargement, increased vaginal discharge, vaginal discomfort or irritation, bloating, dizziness, stomach cramping, nausea, vomiting or headache can commonly occur in women using Junel. Acne may also worsen or get better. Vaginal spotting or bleeding may also take place between periods. Some women may also miss their periods, especially during the first 1-2 months of starting using Junel. Inform your doctor at once if you have missed two periods in a row. Some serious side effects associated with Junel include:

  • Difficulty wearing contact lenses

Warnings & Precautions of Junel

You should avoid smoking cigarettes or using tobacco during Junel treatment, especially if you are over 35 years of age. This may increase your risks of high blood pressure, heart attack, stroke or blood clots.

Your doctor will not recommend you to buy Junel if you have blood clots in the eyes, lungs or legs, breast or endometrial cancer, severe high blood pressure, diabetes, severe headache, heart or liver disease, undiagnosed vaginal bleeding, heart valve disease or liver tumor.
