Description of Ketostix Strips

Ketostix Strips is used to test urine for the presence of urinary ketones. High levels of ketones in the urine indicates that your body is not using glucose from your blood and is instead burning fat for energy.

You can buy Ketostix Strips from a pharmacy. Read the instructions carefully on the leaflet before using the strips. If you have any doubt, ask your pharmacist. Collect fresh urine specimen in a dry container. Open the bottle that contains Ketostix Strips. Remove one strip and close the bottle. Dip the test area of the strip in the urine and remove immediately. Make sure that the strip is wet with urine. Tap the strip edge on a dry surface or container for removing any excess urine. You must then compare the strip’s color to the Color Chart provided with the Ketostix Strips exactly after 15 seconds of wetting. Ignore the color changes after 15 seconds. The color on the strip indicates the level of ketones in your body.

Indications & Dosage of Ketostix Strips

Ketones are incompletely burned carbon fragments. Ketosis is a condition where the body is burning fat for energy instead of sugar. In such a condition the person can eat more calories and still lose the same amount of weight.

Ketostix Strips provides a very easy, quick and private way to determine the amount of ketones in your urine. The strips expire after 90 days. The strips are available in foiled wrapped and vials. The foil wrapped strip is more expensive than vials of Ketostix Strips.

A beige or cream color indicates no ketones in the urine. A light purple or pink color indicates some ketones in the urine. As the color goes darker, the amount of ketones in the urine goes up. The light color indicates negative ketones and dark color indicates high level of ketones.
