Description of Lamisil

Lamisil is used to treat fungal infections that affect the fingernails and toenails. The generic name of the drug is Terbinafine.

You must buy Lamisil only as per the instructions of your doctor. Take the tablet with a full glass of water. You may also mix the tablet in pudding or potato mash and swallow it. Don’t mix it in fruit juice or other acidic substances.

Indications & Dosage of Lamisil

Lamisil is an antifungal agent that destroys the ability of fungi to produce chemicals called sterols. The sterols are essential in holding the fungal cells together. The drug attacks and weakens the fungi cell membrane and thereby curbs the infection.

You must take Lamisil with food. You will have to take the drug for 6-12 weeks. You may find an improvement in symptoms after using the drug for a few days. Complete the full course to get the best results. You must test your blood and liver regularly during treatment. Make sure that you are taking Lamisil on time. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible. If it is time for the next dose, skip the missed dose. If you miss too many doses, there will be a chance for the recurrence of the infection. Don’t take an overdose of the drug. The common symptoms of an overdose are nausea, stomach pain, dizziness, vomiting and skin rash. Lamisil does not treat viral infections such as cold and flu. It will take a few months to get back the original shape of your nails.

You must store Lamisil at room temperature below 25 degrees Celsius. Make sure that the drug is kept in a tight container away from direct light, heat and moisture. Keep it away from the reach of children.
