Description of Lexiva

Lexiva falls under a certain category of HIV medications known as protease inhibitors. The key role of the drug is to prevent the multiplication, growth and development of the human immunodeficiency virus inside the human body. The generic name of Lexiva is fosamprenavir.

Lexiva is available in the form of tablets in only one strength- Lexiva 700mg. One can buy Lexiva in the form of an oral suspension as well.

Indications & Dosage of Lexiva

Lexiva is indicated for the treatment of HIV, the multiplication of which may lead to Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome or AIDS. It should be noted that Lexiva is purely a preventive medication and should not be seen as a complete cure for HIV or AIDS.

One can only buy Lexiva for patients who are 6 years of age and above.

One should administer only the prescribed quantities of the drug. Altering the dosage pattern may reduce the effectiveness of Lexiva or do harm to the body. Substances like rifampin, warfarin, itraconazole, antidepressants, certain heart rhythm medications, blood pressure medications, tacrolimus and other immune suppressants, oral diabetes medicines, cholesterol lowering drugs, steroids, and erectile dysfunction medicines should be used only if the doctor allows it.

Warnings & Precautions of Lexiva

People allergic to fosemprenavir and other antiviral drugs should not take Lexiva. Certain substances like cisapride, midazolam, ergonovine and methylergonovine should be avoided when taking Lexiva.

Patients suffering from liver and kidney disorders, hemophilia, heart related conditions and diabetes should definitely consult their doctor before taking Lexiva.

Lexiva may harm an unborn baby, and must be used with caution by pregnant women. Breastfeeding women should also check with a doctor before taking the drug.
