Description of Lincocin

Lincocin has Lincomycin as its active ingredient, and it belongs to the therapeutic class of antibacterial medicines. The drug is given to the patient in the form of an injection intramuscularly or as a needle intravenously. Each 2ml vial of Lincocin contains 600mg Lincomycin. Apart from this, it also contains water for injection and benzyl alcohol.

Indications & Dosage of Lincocin

Being an antibiotic, Lincocin is used for treating bacterial infections in different parts of the body, including the ear, lung, throat, skin, bone, joints and blood. It works by fighting the bacteria responsible for the infection.

For serious infections, adults are given Lincocin 600mg per day intramuscularly. More severe infections can be treated with Lincocin 600mg two times a day. For serious infections, pediatric patients over one month of age are given Lincocin 10mg per kg per day. For more severe infections, they will be given Lincocin 10mg per kg two times a day. If you are receiving the medicine intravenously, you will receive Lincocin 600mg every 8 to 12 hours for severe infections. The dosage of Lincocin may increase with the severity of your disease.

Side Effects & Interactions of Lincocin

Mild skin rash or itching, vomiting, nausea, painful or swollen tongue, vaginal discharge or itching, dizziness, ringing in ears, or spinning sensation can be commonly experienced by Lincocin patients. These side effects are short-lived and settle down on their own as your body adjusts to the drug. However, inform your doctor if any of these become unmanageable with or without medical help. Also seek medical help if you develop any serious side effects of Lincocin. Symptoms of such side effects include:

  • Bloody or watery diarrhea
  • Decreased or stopped urination
  • Severe peeling, blistering or red skin rash
  • Fever, body aches, chills, flu symptoms
