Description of Micardis

Micardis is an angiotensin receptor blocker, and its active ingredient is Telmisartan. You can buy Micardis in the form of oral tablets.

Indications & Dosage of Micardis

Micardis is indicated for the treatment of hypertension or high blood pressure. Keeping blood pressure in check helps prevent heart attacks, kidney problems, and strokes. In some cases, it is also used for treating congestive heart failure and preventing kidney damage due to diabetes. The drug works by blocking the angiotensin hormone so that blood vessels are relaxed and widened and blood can flow through them freely. It can also be given to patients over 55 years of age to prevent myocardial infarction, death, or stroke due to cardiovascular causes.

In order to control blood pressure, the treatment usually starts with one Micardis 40mg tablet once a day. The effects of the drug start becoming visible after 2 weeks of starting treatment. The maximum desired results are achieved after around 4 weeks.

In order to prevent cardiovascular risks, you will need to take Micardis 80mg per day. You can take the tablets with or without meals.

Side Effects & Interactions of Micardis

Dizziness, blurred vision, lightheadedness and back pain can be commonly experienced during the initial stages of Micardis treatment. However, these subside on their own as your body adjusts to the drug. You should seek immediate medical attention if you have any of the following serious side effects of Micardis:

  • Decreased sexual ability
  • Fainting
  • Muscle pain, weakness or tenderness
  • Unusual tiredness
  • Decreased or increased urination
  • Easy bruising or bleeding
  • Dark urine
  • Yellowing of the eyes or skin
  • Persistent nausea or vomiting

Some patients may also suffer from an allergic reaction to Micardis. Stop using the medicine at once if you experience hives, facial swelling, severe dizziness, or difficulty breathing after taking Micardis. Seek medical attention if any of these symptoms persist even after discontinuing the drug.

Some of the medicinal products that may adversely interact with Micardis include:

  • Lithium
  • Ramipril
  • Contraceptives including drospirenone
  • Potassium-sparing diuretics (e.g. spironolactone)
  • Potassium supplements
  • Salt substitutes

Inform your doctor beforehand if you are taking any of these drugs at present. He or she may either not recommend you to buy Micardis, or may make some necessary dosage adjustments.

Warnings & Precautions of Micardis

Before using Micardis, inform your doctor if you have a liver or kidney disease, hyperkalemia, bile duct blockage, dehydration or lack of minerals in your body.

As the drug makes you dizzy, avoid doing activities that call for complete alertness, such as operating a machine or driving a vehicle.

Elderly patients may be more susceptible to the side effects of Micardis, especially kidney problems and dizziness. Therefore, such patients should take this drug only if extremely necessary.

In some cases, Micardis can prove to be fatal for an unborn child if taken during pregnancy. Therefore, this medicine is not meant to be taken by pregnant women. It is also important to keep yourself from getting pregnant during Micardis treatment. Use a reliable form of contraception during Micardis treatment, and inform your doctor immediately if you happen to become pregnant.
