Description of Midamor

Midamor has Amiloride HCl as its active ingredient, and it belongs to the class of antikaliuretic diuretic agents. You can buy Midamor in the form of oral tablets, each one containing 5mg anhydrous Amiloride HCl. Apart from the active ingredient, the tablets also contain starch, magnesium stearate, lactose, iron oxide and calcium phosphate.

Indications & Dosage of Midamor

Midamor is a potassium-sparing water pill used for treating or preventing low potassium levels in the patient’s blood, a condition termed as hypokalemia. When used in conjunction with other diuretics, the drug can also be used for treating heart failure, edema and high blood pressure. It works by preventing the patient’s body from absorbing excess salt and keeping potassium levels in the body from going too low.

Usually, the treatment will start with Midamor 5mg per day, along with other diuretics or antihypertensive agents. The dosage may be increased to 10mg, 15mg or 20mg per day, depending on your individual medical requirements and response to treatment.

Take Midamor tablets with food.

Side Effects & Interactions of Midamor

Headache, loss of appetite, mild nausea, stomach pain, gas or skin rash may be commonly experienced by Midamor patients. Patients encounter these symptoms only during the first few days of starting treatment, and they subside on their own as your body adjusts to the drug. However, inform your doctor at once if any of these persist or worsen, or if you develop any serious side effects of Midamor. Such side effects include:

  • Tingling or numbness
  • Muscle weakness or pain
  • Uneven, slow or fast heartbeat
  • Lightheadedness, restlessness, drowsiness
  • Decreased or stopped urination
  • Tremors, confusion
  • Increased thirst, dry mouth, vomiting, nausea, tiredness
  • Stomach pain, low fever, clay-colored stools, dark urine, loss of appetite, nausea, jaundice, yellowing of the eyes or skin
  • Shallow breathing

Some hypersensitive patients may develop an allergic reaction to Midamor tablets. Symptoms of an allergy include severe dizziness, hives on body, difficulty breathing or facial swelling. Stop using Midamor if you develop any of these side effects. Seek medical attention if any of these persist even after discontinuing treatment.

Some of the drugs that may interact with Midamor include hormonal contraceptives containing drospirenone, drugs that increase potassium levels in blood (e.g. tacrolimus or eplerenone), angiotensin receptor antagonists (e.g. losartan or valsartan), ACE inhibitors (e.g. benazepril or captopril) or NSAIDs (e.g. ibuprofen).

Warnings & Precautions of Midamor

Your doctor will not recommend you to buy Midamor if you have an allergy to any of its ingredients, or if you have a kidney disease, inability to urinate, or if you are taking any potassium sparing diuretics (e.g. spironolactone) or potassium supplements.

Inform your doctor beforehand if you have heart disease, diabetes, liver disease, cirrhosis or breathing disorder, as special tests and dosage adjustments may be needed.

Your doctor will advise you to avoid drinking alcohol, as it may increase risks of developing some serious side effects of Midamor. Also avoid eating high-salt foods, as it may cause your body to retain too much water and may decrease efficiency of the medicine.
