Description of Relafen

Relafen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). The generic name of this drug is Nabumetone. It is administered orally and is available in form of oral tablets (Relafen 500 mg and 750 mg).

Nonmedical ingredients present in this drug are: microcrystalline cellulose, polysorbate 80, hypromellose, polyethylene glycol, titanium dioxide, polysorbate 80, sodium starch glycolate, sodium lauryl sulfate, and iron oxides (present only in 750 mg oral tablets).

Indications & Dosage of Relafen

Relafen is used for treating the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. This drug provides relief from joint stiffness, swelling, and inflammation. NSAIDs work by blocking the activity of prostaglandins, hormones that are responsible for pain and inflammation.

Relafen is not a cure for rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis nor does it prevents or slows the advancement of these conditions.

The recommended dosage of Relafen for the symptomatic treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis is 1000 mg, administered in a single dose or two doses. Some patients may require higher dosage to obtain adequate symptomatic relief. The maximum daily dosage is 2000 mg. You should in no circumstance take more than 2000 mg of Relafen in a day.

Relafen should be taken with a full glass of water (8 ounces). You may take this drug with or without food. If you experience upset stomach due to Relafen, take your daily dosage with food or milk.
