Description of Condylox

Condylox is an antimitotic, and the active ingredient in the medicine is Podofilox. You can buy Condylox in the form of a topical solution.

Indications & Dosage of Condylox

Condylox is indicated for the treatment of warts appearing on a person’s genitals. In some cases, it is also used for treating a skin infection known as molluscum contagiosum. The drug works by stopping the growth of certain cells in the body that are responsible for the growth and development of warts. When the cells do not grow, the warts eventually fall off.

Your doctor will advise you to apply the medicine on the warts twice a day for 3 days, and then withhold its use for 4 days. Such weekly cycles are repeated 4 times until the warts fade away completely. If your warts have not been removed after 4 cycles, an alternative method of treatment may need to be considered.

Condylox comes with an applicator that you have to use to apply the drug on the warts. Use a minimum amount of the medicine needed for covering the lesions. Applying more Condylox than needed or more frequently than prescribed will not help in treating the condition any faster or better. Do not forget to dispose off the applicator and wash your hands properly after applying the medicine.

Side Effects & Interactions of Condylox

Commonly experienced side effects of Condylox include:

  • Pain during sex
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Unpleasant odor from the skin
  • Sleep problems or insomnia
  • Mild tenderness, irritation, bleeding, peeling, dryness, scarring, tingling, crusting, swelling or blistering at the site of application.

These are mild side effects of Condylox and subside on their own within a few days of treatment. However, inform your doctor if any of these worsen or persist.

Some patients may develop a serious skin reaction after applying Condylox. Symptoms of such a condition include bleeding, oozing, burning, itching, or skin changes at the site of application. You should wash off the solution immediately and seek medical attention.

Since Condylox is applied topically, it is unlikely to interact with any drugs that you take orally or through injections. However, you should inform your doctor about all the medicinal products you apply topically, including topical applications and cosmetic products.

Sometimes, Condylox may get absorbed into your bloodstream and may interact with some orally taken medicines. It would be better to inform your doctor about all the drugs you take at present, including prescription and non-prescription drugs, herbal products and health supplements.

Warnings & Precautions of Condylox

Before you buy Condylox, inform your doctor if you have inflamed, irritated or injured skin around the area to be treated, or if you recently had a surgery in that area.

Your doctor will advise you not to have sexual contact on the days you have applied the medicine. As genital warts may spread to your sexual partner too, you should use condoms or other barrier forms of contraception during sexual intercourse.

Condylox is not meant to be used by pregnant women, as it may cause harm to the unborn baby. Also inform your doctor immediately if you become pregnant during Condylox treatment.
