Each gram of Elimite Cream contains 50mg Permethrin, along with other inactive ingredients including Formaldehyde as preservative, sodium hydroxide, purified water, polyoxyethylene cetyl ethers, mineral oil, lanolin alcohols, isopropyl myristate, glyceryl monostearate, glycerin, fractionated coconut oil, carbomer 934P and butylated hydroxytoluene.

Indications & Dosage of Elimite Cream

Elimite Cream is used for the treatment of scabies and head lice. It is a condition in which mites infest and irritate the patient’s skin. The medicine works by paralyzing and killing these mites and also their eggs. It is available in the form of a light orange brown to yellow, vicious liquid or low melting solid, supplied in 30gm and 60gm tubes.

Usually, one Elimite Cream 30gm tube is sufficient for an adult patient of average size. Apply the cream on your skin from head to soles of the feet. Scabies does not usually infest the scalp of adults, but temple, forehead, neck and hairline of infants and elderly patients may be affected. Bathe or take a shower after 8 to 14 hours of application in order to remove the cream. If live mites are seen even after 14 days of application, your doctor may advise you to re-apply the cream. Re-application is not advised if you have developed pruritus after the first application.

Side Effects & Interactions of Elimite Cream

Skin irritation, swelling, itching or redness may occur after the application of Elimite Cream. Sometimes, the symptoms may worsen, and mild stinging or burning may also take place. These are signs that the medicine is working. Inform your doctor at once if any of these symptoms become intolerable.

Some patients may have an allergy to any active or inactive ingredients of the drug. Symptoms of such a condition include hives, difficulty breathing, severe dizziness or facial swelling. Avoid sexual contact with other people until your infection has been cleared completely. Also avoid sharing combs, hair brushes, hats, hair accessories, bed linens, clothes and other articles, as the infection may pass from one person to other very easily.
