Description of Omniscan
Omniscan is used in MRI for identifying lesions in the body. The generic name of the drug is Gadodiamide.
You must buy Omniscan only as per the instructions of your doctor. It is an injection given by a doctor or nurse in the clinic. If you want to administer the injection at home, learn all the procedures from your doctor. If you have any doubt, clear it at the earliest. Don’t use the solution if it is discolored or you find particles in it. Draw the drug into the syringe and use it immediately. Throw the unused portion. Dispose the syringe after use.
Indications & Dosage of Omniscan
Omniscan is for intravenous use to facilitate the visualization of lesions within the retroperitoneal space and the pelvic, thoracic and abdominal cavities.
The dosage of Omniscan depends on the weight of the patient, medical condition and the response to treatment. The recommended dosage of Omniscan is 0.1 mL/kg in adults and children. You must not use the drug in excess quantities or for a longer time than prescribed. Don’t miss any dose of the drug. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible. If it is time for the next dose, skip the missed dose. Don’t take an overdose of Omniscan. In case of an overdose, seek immediate medical attention. Don’t start, stop or change the dosage without consulting your doctor.
You must store Omniscan at room temperature between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius. Don’t freeze. Keep it away from direct light, moisture and heat. Make sure that the solution and vials are kept away from the reach of children and pets.

- Itching, swelling and redness at the injection site
- Autonomous nervous system disorders such as Vasodilation
- Hot flushes and fatigue
- Chest pain and cardiac failure
- Abnormal coordination of the body parts ad loss of balance
- Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and upset stomach
- Problems with hearing
- Loss of taste
- Acute renal failure
- Problems with vision
- Abnormal hepatic function
Contact your doctor at the earliest if the serious side effects persist.
Several drugs may interact with Omniscan. You must inform your doctor about all your previous and current medications that include over-the-counter drugs and herbal preparations before start using Omniscan.
Warnings & Precautions of Omniscan
You must not buy Omniscan if you have:
- An allergy to any of the ingredients in it
- An acute renal failure
- A history of liver and kidney disease
- An allergy to any medicine, food or other substances
- Anemia or any diseases related to blood cells
- A history of hepatic disease, asthma, seizure, respiratory diseases or hemoglobinopathies
You must not use Omniscan if you are pregnant or planning to get pregnant as it will affect the unborn baby. You must use adequate birth control devices during treatment. It is not known whether Omniscan will pass through breast milk.
