Description of Glucotrol

Glucotrol is a diabetes medication with the generic name Glipizide. It belongs to a group of medicines known as Sulfonylureas. Glucotrol is available in the form of a tablet indicated for oral use. It is available in two strengths, Glucotrol 5mg and 10mg. The drug is a prescription medication; you need to consult your doctor before you buy Glucotrol online.

Indications & Dosage of Glucotrol

Glucotrol is used to control blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes (non-insulin diabetes). The drug is prescribed along with dietary recommendations and exercise regime. Glipizide, the active ingredient in the medication, stimulates the pancreas to produce more insulin, which helps manage blood sugar levels.

Your doctor will give you specific instructions regarding the dosage. The dosage of Glucotrol depends on your medical condition and response to treatment. You need to take Glucotrol 30 minutes prior eating a meal. If your doctor has recommended only one daily dose of Glucotrol, take it 30 minutes prior breakfast.

Take the medication at the same time every day to get maximum benefit from Glucotrol treatment. Do not take the medication in larger amounts than recommended by your doctor as it may cause low blood sugar levels.

Side Effects & Interactions of Glucotrol

Like all other drugs, Glucotrol may also cause mild to severe side effects in some patients. However, not all people who use this medication experience side effects. As a matter of fact, many people who use this medication do not complain about any side effects.

The less serious side effects associated with Glucotrol include: nausea, diarrhea, drowsiness, dizziness or headache. Consult your doctor if any of these side effects become bothersome or stay for a long time.

Some people may also experience severe side effects such as persistent sore throat, vision problems, unusual bleeding or bruising, blurred vision, confusion, fever, fainting, back pain, unusual weakness or tiredness. Stop using the medication and consult your doctor if you experience severe side effects after taking a dose of Glucotrol.

Glucotrol may potentially interact with other drugs you are using and cause side effects. Some drugs increase the hypoglycemic effect of Glucotrol, which may cause low blood sugar levels. Tell the doctor if you use medications such as Sulfonamides, Probenecid, Monoamine oxidase inhibitors, Salicylates, Chloramphenicol, or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents. This is not a complete list of drugs that increase the hypoglycemic effect of Glucotrol.

Before you buy Glucotrol, tell the doctor about every medicine you are using which includes prescription drugs, over the counter medications and herbal supplements.

Warnings & Precautions of Glucotrol

You should not use Glucotrol if you are hypersensitive to any ingredient in it. It may not be the right drug for people with certain medical problems such as sever problems related to diabetes such as diabetic coma or diabetic ketoacidosis, acidosis (high blood acid levels). Pregnant women who are within 1 month of their expected delivery should not use Glucotrol.

Nursing mothers or women planning to get pregnant should use Glucotrol only after learning about the benefits and risks of using the drug from their doctor. People with type 1 diabetes should not buy Glucotrol. Alcohol lowers blood sugar levels, so avoid consuming alcohol while using Glucotrol.
