Description of Altace

Altace belongs to a class of drugs called angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors (ACE). The generic name of Altace is Ramipril. Your doctor may ask you to buy Altace if you suffer from high blood pressure and to help you recuperate after a heart attack. Altace is administered orally.

Indications & Dosage of Altace

Altace is generally prescribed to patients suffering from high blood pressure. It is also used to treat heart failure and prevent kidney failure that may result due to high blood pressure and diabetes. The enzyme angiotensin II causes the muscles of the arteries to shrink and increase blood pressure. Altace decreases the production of this enzyme and lowers blood pressure. It also relaxes the muscles of the arteries and enlarges the arteries. By increasing the flow of blood and oxygen to the heart, Altace enhances the capacity of the heart.

Altace is available in the form of tablets as 1.25, 2.5, 5 and 10 mg. Doctors prescribe Altace 2.5-20 mg per day.

You can take with or without food. Always swallow the tablet whole.
