Description of Aquacel

Aquacel is a surgical cover wound dressing made of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose. It helps in reducing post operative site infection and skin blistering. It also delays the discharge compared to the non-woven ordinary dressing.

Seek medical help before you buy Aquacel. Before using the dressing, clean the wound with wound cleanser. Aquacel is used on an area larger than the wound. It must overlap at least 1 cm on the skin over the wound. The dressing is placed above the wound with an intimate contact. It is covered with a secondary dressing either with a bandage or surgical tape.

Indications & Dosage of

Aquacel dressing interacts and absorbs the wound, traps bacteria and provides a micro-environment that helps heal the wound. Aquacel is produced as a textile fiber. It is available in two forms, i.e., a flat non-woven pad to apply on large open wounds and a ribbon for dressing cavities. The available sizes are: 5cm x 5 cm, 10cm x 10cm, 15cm x 15cm, 20cm x 30cm and 2g x 45cm ribbon.

Aquacel can be used for different types of wounds, leg ulcers, donor sites, pressure areas and deeper cavity wounds. While using Aquacel on exuding wounds, you must moisten the area directly above the wound with sterile water or saline. For these kinds of wounds, a flat non-wove pad must be used. Aquacel Ribbon could be used for deep cavity wounds. The dressing must be placed gently over the wound, not tightly. Doctors generally recommend that only 80% of the cavity be covered with dressing leaving space for swelling. During the process of healing, the body removes the non-viable tissues from the wound. This will make the wound look bigger in the initial days. If the wound continues to grow bigger for many days, consult your doctor. Aquacel dressing must be changed in regular intervals. The frequency of change depends on the nature of the wound and the response of the patient to the treatment. Dressing for heavy exuding wounds must be changed daily initially. Later, once the wound starts healing, the dressing can be kept up to seven days. Aquacel is very easy to remove and doesn’t cause any pain or irritation.

Aquacel must be kept at room temperature away from direct sun, heat and moisture. Make sure that it is kept away from the reach of children. Open the pouch only before use. A damaged and opened pouch loses its sterility. If you find it difficult to remove the dressing, soak it in water or saline and remove it after sometime.
