Description of Aromasin
Aromasin is an oral medication prescribed as an adjuvant for the treatment of estrogen-receptor positive breast cancer in its early stages. Only postmenopausal women who have undergone chemotherapy/ radiotherapy/ surgery can buy Aromasin as a follow up medication to reduce chances of a recurrence of their condition. The key ingredient present in this medicine is exemestane. Exemestane belongs to a class of drugs termed as aromatase inhibitors. The generic name of Aromasin is Exemestane .
Indications & Dosage of Aromasin
Aromasin is indicated in women with advanced breast cancer which has developed further after treatment with tamoxifen for a period of two years or more. The drug is also used in adjuvant therapy following a switch from two or three years of tamoxifen in women who have attained menopause and have been diagnosed with estrogen-receptor positive early breast cancer. Besides the approved usage of Aromasin, doctors may be in a position to prescribe this medicine to treat other ailments.
The usual recommended dosage of Aromasin is one 25mg tablet per day. For patients taking Aromasin with a CYP 3A4 inducer, the dosage may be modified to 50 mg tablets, one per day.
