Description of Avandamet

Avandamet is a drug used to control blood sugar levels in the body. Its main ingredients are metformin and rosiglitazone, which are oral diabetes drugs. Avandamet works by reducing the sugar content produced by the liver and absorbed by the intestines. The generic name of Avandamet is metformin and rosiglitazone.

Indications & Dosage of Avandamet

Avandamet is indicated mainly for Type 2 diabetes patients who do not take insulin shots on a regular basis. Patients suffering from Type 1 diabetes should never use Avandamet.

Avandamet is available in three different strengths- Avandamet 1/500mg, Avandamet 4/500mg, and Avandamet 4/1000mg. The dosage of Avandamet is completely dependent on what the doctor recommends. Taking a smaller or larger dose than prescribed is not recommended.

The drug can be taken either separately or with food, but it is advisable to take it with food during the first few days of treatment. Since Avandamet affects blood sugar levels, they need to be checked regularly. As such, patients should not skip their doctor’s appointments. It is recommended that a patient adhere to a disciplined routine during Avandamet treatment. Fluctuating food habits can alter the glucose levels in the body considerably. The drug is to be stored away from excess moisture and heat.
