Description of Caverject

Caverject works by inducing vasodilation. The medicine induces erection by relaxing trabecular smooth muscles and dilating cavernosal arteries. In this way, lacunar spaces are expanded, and blood is entrapped due to the compression of venules against tunica albuginea.

The active ingredient in Caverject is Alprostadil, available as naturally occurring form of psostaglandin E1 hormone.

You can buy Caverject in the form of single-use injection syringes.

Indications & Dosage of Caverject

Caverject is used for treating erectile dysfunction in men due to vasculogenic, neurogenic, mixed etiology, or psychogenic related issues. In some cases, it is also used as an adjunct for the diagnosis of erectile dysfunction.

If your erectile dysfunction is psychogenic, of mixed etiology, or vasculogenic, your initial dosage will be Caverject 2.5mg. Depending on your response to the drug, it can be increased by 5 to 10 mg, until an erection suitable for intercourse is achieved. However, the erection should not persist for more than 1 hour.

In case of erectile dysfunction due to pure neurogenic etiology or spinal cord injury, your treatment will start with Caverject 1.25mg. It can be increased by 1.25mg to 2.5mg, depending on your response to the initial treatment.
