Cefzil has Cefprozil as its active ingredient, and it belongs to the class of cephalosporin antibiotics. You can buy Cefzil in the form of oral tablets as well as oral suspension. Tablets are available in 250 and 500mg strengths, and oral suspension is available in 125mg/5ml and 250mg/5ml strengths. Some of the inactive ingredients present in the medicine include cellulose, simethicone, polysorbate 80, sorbic acid, sodium chloride, citric acid and flavors.

Indications & Dosage of Cefzil

Cefzil is used for treating different types of bacterial infections, including tonsillitis, pharyngitis, acute sinusitis, secondary bacterial infections of acute bronchitis, chronic bronchitis and infections of the skin or skin structure. The medicine works by fighting the susceptible bacteria to stop their growth and spread.

The dosage may range from Cefzil 250mg to 500mg per day, depending on the type and severity of the infection. Usually, you will be advised to take the drug for around 10 days. However, the duration of treatment may vary, depending on your individual requirements.

If you are using tablets, you will have to take them with a full glass of water. If you are using the oral suspension, shake it well before measuring the dose. The oral suspension will need to be consumed within 14 days of opening the bottle. Throw away any leftover medicine.
