Description of Cimzia
Certolizumab is the major active ingredient in Cimzia, and it falls under the category of drugs known as TNF blockers. It is given to the patient in the form of a subcutaneous injection. Apart from the major ingredient, Cimzia vial also contains sodium acetate, sodium chloride and water. No preservatives are used.
Indications & Dosage of Cimzia
Your doctor will recommend you to buy Cimzia for treating symptoms of Crohn’s disease, or for treating moderate or severe rheumatoid arthritis in adult patients. The drug works by reducing effects of certain chemicals in the body that are responsible for causing inflammation.
For treating Crohn’s disease, Cimzia 400mg will be given to you in the 2nd and 4th weeks. Once clinical response has been obtained, a maintenance dosage of Cimzia 400mg will be given to you at a gap of every 4 weeks.
For treating Rheumatoid arthritis, Cimzia 400mg is given to you at 2 and 4 weeks. After that, you will receive Cimzia 200mg every other week. As a maintenance dose, you will be given Cimzia 400mg after every 4 weeks.
Side Effects & Interactions of Cimzia
Local area reactions can commonly occur after receiving Cimzia shots, identified by redness, pain, swelling, bleeding or itching at the site of injection. Some patients may also encounter sinus pain, stuffy nose, constipation, mild diarrhea or stomach pain. Symptoms of such a condition include tiredness, weight loss, night sweats, fever, pain in upper stomach spreading to shoulders, easy bleeding or bruising, lightheadedness, shortness of breath, pale skin, rapid heart rate, upper stomach pain, nausea, dark urine, itching, yellowing of eyes or skin, or clay-colored stools.
Inform your doctor beforehand if you are already using drugs that weaken your immune system (e.g. cyclosporine, cancer chemotherapy or azathioprine), live vaccines (e.g. oral polio vaccine) or anakinra.
