Description of Crestor
Crestor contains Rosuvastatin Calcium, which works by decreasing triglyceride and increasing HDL in a patient’s body. This medicine can be used by any patient over 10 years of age.
Along with taking Crestor, your doctor will also advise you to exercise regularly, lose weight, stop smoking, avoid alcohol, and walk often. In this way, the drug will be able to work better and faster. It is available in the form of oral tablets.
Indications & Dosage of Crestor
Crestor is used to lower triglycerides and LDL or low-density lipoprotein in a patient’s blood, and increase HDL or high-density lipoprotein. In some cases, this drug can also be used for lowering risks of a heart attack or stroke, or other conditions such as coronary heart disease or diabetes.
Initially, your doctor will advise you to take Crestor 10mg once a day. You can take the tablet with or without meals. Depending on your response to the treatment, the dosage can be increased or decreased after 2-4 weeks. For example, if the LDL-C goal is not achieved with a Crestor 20mg dose, it can be increased to Crestor 40mg per day.
Side Effects & Interactions of Crestor
Crestor patients can develop muscle problems, including tenderness, weakness, or pain in the muscles, accompanied by fever or unusual tiredness. Inform your doctor immediately if you also notice changes in your urine or if it is foamy or bloody.
In some cases, Crestor may also lead to liver problems. Inform your doctor at once if you have yellowing of the eyes or skin, dark urine, persistent nausea or vomiting, and severe pain in the abdomen or stomach. Seek medical attention immediately if you have any of these symptoms.
Some hypersensitive patients may suffer from an allergic reaction to the medicine. Discontinue taking Crestor at once if you have hives, facial swelling, severe dizziness or difficulty breathing.
Before you buy Crestor, inform your doctor about all the prescription and non-prescription drugs you are taking at present. As Cyclosporine may increase exposure to Rosuvastatin, you will be prescribed a lower dose of Crestor if you are already on treatment with cyclosporine or gemfibrozil. Taking coumarin anticoagulants along with Crestor can increase INR in the patient’s body. The combination of Crestor and niacin may increase risks of skeletal muscle problems. Also do not take Crestor along with protease inhibitors or fenofibrate.
Warnings & Precautions of Crestor
Your doctor will not advise you to buy Crestor if you have an allergy to any of its ingredients, or if you are suffering from a liver or kidney disease, thyroid disorder, or diabetes. As this drug is used for lowering cholesterol levels, you should avoid consuming foods that are high in fat or cholesterol. Such foods will make the job of Crestor difficult and will only hamper its effectiveness while also putting your health in danger.
Avoid alcohol during Crestor treatment, as alcohol may raise triglyceride levels in your blood and increase the risk of liver damage.
