Description of Cyklokapron
Cyklokapron is an antifibrinolytic agent. Its active ingredient is Tranexamic Acid. It is given to a patient in the form of oral tablets as well as an intravenous injection.
Indications & Dosage of Cyklokapron
Cyklokapron is used for preventing bleeding during a tooth extraction. It is given to patients suffering from hemophilia, a bleeding disorder. It is also given to patients with a high risk of continuous bleeding, such as after an injury or surgery, during heavy menstrual bleeding, or heavy nosebleeds. The drug works by clotting the blood so that prolonged bleeding is prevented.
Each ml of Cyklokapron injection contains 100mg of Tranexamid Acid. Cyklokapron 10mg per kg of the patient’s weight is given just before the tooth extraction. After that, Cyklokapron 10mg per kg of weight is given to the patient 3-4 times a day for 2 to 8 days.
If you are using the oral tablet form of Cyklokapron, you will need to take one tablet 2 to 4 times a day, depending on your medical condition and response to treatment. Try to take the tablet at almost the same time each day.
Side Effects & Interactions of Cyklokapron
Mild headache, stomach pain, stuffy or runny nose, tiredness, muscle or joint pain, back pain, or depression may generally be experienced by Cyklokapron patients. Inform your doctor immediately if any of these become intolerable.
Seek medical attention immediately if you develop any of the serious side effects of the drug. Such symptoms include:
- Problems with vision, including color blindness
- Sudden weakness or numbness on one side of the body
- Sudden chest pain or difficulty breathing
- Sudden headache, problems with speech, balance or vision, confusion
- Swelling or pain in one or both legs
- Blood in the urine
- Migraine
- Decreased or stopped urination
- Pale skin, lightheadedness, shortness of breath, trouble concentrating, rapid heart rate
Before you buy Cyklokapron, inform your doctor about all the drugs you are taking at present, especially blood thinners (e.g. warfarin), blood clotting medicines (e.g. contraceptive pills or estrogens), chemotherapy drugs for treating leukemia or NSAIDs (e.g. aspirin or ibuprofen). In addition to these, inform your doctor about all the prescription and non-prescription medicines you use, including herbal products, diet supplements and topical applications.
Warnings & Precautions of Cyklokapron
Your doctor will not recommend you to buy Cyklokapron if you have an allergy to any of its ingredients, or if you have color blindness, a history of bleeding in the brain, recent incident of blood clotting, history of strokes, or any problem involving the blood vessels in the eyes.
You doctor will need to take some special tests and make some dosage adjustments if you have kidney disease, blood in the urine, leukemia, or a history of endometriosis. Also inform your doctor if the gap between your menstrual cycles is less than 21 days or more than 35 days.
Breastfeeding mothers should not use Cyklokapron, as it may pass into their breast milk and cause harm to the nursing infant. Stop breastfeeding the child if taking Cyklokapron is inevitable.
