Deplin is categorized as a "medical food." Its generic name is l-methylfolate. Deplin is a prescription vitamin which is used to manage low Folate levels in patients who have depression.

It is also prescribed to people with schizophrenia who are suffering from hyperhomocysteinemia.

Deplin is not an antipsychotic or an antidepressant and should be combined with antidepressant or antipsychotic medication for the best results .
