Description of Diacomit

Diacomit is used to treat a very rare type of epilepsy in children called Severe Myoclonic epilepsy in Infancy (SMEI) or Dravetas Syndrome. It is an anti-epileptic medicine. Diacomitis used along with Clobazam and Valproate when they fail to control generalized tonic-clonic seizures. The generic name of this medication is Stiripentol, an active ingredient.

Diacomit is available in the form of capsules and sachets (containing a powder for oral suspension) in two strengths: Diacomit 250mg and Diacomit 500mg. You cannot buy Diacomit without a doctor’s prescription.

It is advisable to administer Diacomit under the supervision of a pediatrician who has sufficient experience in diagnosing and managing epilepsy in infants and children. The dose must be taken exactly as prescribed by the doctor.

Indications & Dosage of Diacomit

The dosage of Diacomit is influenced by the patient’s weight. The normal dose is 50 mg/kg weight. It is advisable to administer a daily dose in 2 or 3 divided doses. The capsule is taken with a glass of water during a meal, as it degrades rapidly in an acidic environment. You need to mix the required amount of Diacomit powder into a glass of water. You can then drink the mixture while you are having a meal. Please remember, however, that the mixture should be made only immediately before consuming it. Do not make the mixture and store it for later consumption. It is not advisable to consume carbonated drinks, caffeine, milk or dairy products, fruit juice or theophylline with Diacomit. Treatment usually begins with a low dose, which gradually increases to the recommended dose over a period of three days. You may need to increase or decrease the dosage of Clobazam and Valproate while using Diacomit.

It is important that Diacomit is taken regularly at the same time each day. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is time for the next dose.
