Description of Droncit
The generic name of Droncit is praziquantel injection. It belongs to a family of medicines known as anthelmintics. Droncit is available in the form of a clear solution and a tablet, with differing strengths of the active ingredient. Droncit is the most tried and tested dewormer for dogs and cats. It is intended for the removal of feline cestodes. Buy Droncit online only if it’s recommended by your vet to treat your pet. Your vet may prescribe this medicine for other conditions as well.
Indications & Dosage of Droncit
Droncit is indicated in the elimination of tapeworms in cats and dogs. The drug works by controlling tapeworms transmitted by fleas. Following the drug administration, the tapeworm loses its ability to attach to the pet's intestines, leading to the elimination of the parasite.
Your vet will provide specific instructions regarding the dosage of Droncit to be given to your pet. The recommended dosage of Droncit differs for cats and dogs and varies as per the weight.
Droncit may be administered by either the subcutaneous or intramuscular route to feline animals. The medication can be administered directly or mixed with the feed. You can choose between tablets or injectable solution for your dogs and cats. Larger dosage is recommended for smaller animals because they have a higher metabolic rate.
The intramuscular route is chosen for deworming dogs due to the brief period of pain associated with the subcutaneous administration. Although no anaphylactoid reactions were observed in clinical trials, they can occur with the use of this product. Such reactions can be treated symptomatically in case they occur.
Side Effects & Interactions of Droncit
Droncit also causes mild side effects in dogs. In some cases, brief pain responses were noticed following Droncit injections in larger dogs. A few animals also experience a brief period of mild vomiting or drowsiness or staggering gait after being administered with Droncit.
Other mild side effects that are associated with Droncit include: weakness, diarrhea, vomiting, sleepiness, salivation, burning on injection and temporary lack of appetite.
Mild side effects observed in cats following the administration of Droncit include: local irritation and swelling at the place of the subcutaneous injections.
An overdose of Droncit in adult dogs may lead to vomition, depression and excessive salivation. Adult cats may experience muscle tremors, vomition, depression, and incoordination due to an overdose.
Before you buy Droncit, inform your vet about every drug you are using and the food you are giving your pet.
