Description of Emtriva

Emtriva is listed as a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor or NRTI. The generic name of this drug is Emtricitabine. It is meant for oral administration only. You can buy Emtriva online in the form of an oral solution (Emtriva 10 mg/ml) or oral capsules (Emtriva 200 mg).

The nonmedicinal ingredients present in Emtriva capsules are: microcrystalline cellulose, crospovidone, povidone, and magnesium stearate.

The nonmedicinal ingredients present in Emtriva solution are: FD&C yellow No. 6, methylparaben, cotton candy flavor, edetate disodium, propylene glycol, sodium phosphate, propylparaben, xylitol, and water.

Indications & Dosage of Emtriva

Emtriva is indicated for the treatment of AIDS and HIV. It is not a cure for these conditions.

The recommended daily dosage for adult patients is 200 mg. If you are taking oral capsules, take 1 Emtriva capsule daily. Patients who are taking the oral solution should take 20 ml daily.

The recommended daily dose for children in the age group of 3 months to 17 years is calculated on the basis of weight. The recommended daily dose is 6 mg/kg.

Side Effects & Interactions of Emtriva

Emtriva may increase the risk of lactic acidosis. Consult your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any of the following:

  • Pain or weakness in the muscles
