Description of Humatin

Humatin is an antibiotic used to treat various intestinal infections. The generic name of Humatin is Paromomycin. This drug is an Aminoglycoside. You should buy Humatin only if your doctor prescribes it. The medication is to be taken along with food.

Indications & Dosage of Humatin

Humatin is used to treat people with an amoeba infection in their intestines. It can also be used to cure hepatic coma, which is a severely complicated liver disease. Humatin works by killing the organisms that cause intestinal amebiasis.

The dosage of Humatin depends on the age and weight of the patient. Adults and pediatric patients are prescribed Humatin 25-35 mg per kg of weight. The medicine is administered for five to ten days, three times daily. It should be taken with meals along with a full glass of water.

Patients suffering with hepatic coma are recommended to take Humatin 4 g in divided doses. They have to take the medicine for five to six days.

For best results, Humatin should be taken regularly as per the doctor’s instructions. It is recommended that a patient take Humatin with food and a full glass of water. It should be stored at room temperature in a closed container. The drug should be kept away from heat, direct light and moisture. Humatin should never be refrigerated.
