Description of Humira

Humira is a medicine which belongs to the class of tumor necrosis factor inhibitors, also known as TNF inhibitors. You can buy Humira only with a doctor’s prescription. The generic name of Humira is adalimumab. It is used for curing a multitude of inflammatory conditions that affect our digestive system, joints and spine. Humira is administered as an injection under the skin.

Indications & Dosage of Humira

Humira is widely used to treat plaque psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis and juvenile idiopathic arthritis. Humira is also administered to treat Crohn’s disease. The TNF-alpha is a chemical that occurs naturally in the body and is responsible for causing inflammation. Humira works by blocking the TNF-alpha and provides relief from the associated symptoms. It also prevents damage to the immune system and other organs.

Patients with psoriatic arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis are asked to take Humira 40 mg every alternate week.

Pediatric patients suffering from juvenile idiopathic arthritis should be administered Humira based on their weight.

Patients with Crohn’s disease and plaque psoriasis are usually asked to follow a detailed chart for taking Humira.
