Description of Imitrex

The generic name of Imitrex is Sumatriptan. Imitrex falls under a class of drugs known as selective serotonin receptor agonists. Imitrex is used to relieve migraine headaches. You can buy Imitrex to get relief from migraine symptoms like headache and nausea. Imitrex can be administered as a tablet, injection or nasal spray.

Indications & Dosage of Imitrex

Imitrex is used in the treatment of migraine headaches. It also controls the substances in the body that act as triggers for headache, sensitivity to sound and light, nausea, and other symptoms that are associated with migraine. When the blood vessels of the brain get dilated, we experience migraine headaches. Imitrex stimulates serotonin receptors that make the muscles surrounding the blood vessels contract, thus narrowing the blood vessels. Imitrex also controls the transmission of pain signals to the brain.

The dosage of Imitrex depends on the severity of the condition and your response to the drug. Imitrex tablets are available in 25 mg, 50 mg and 100 mg doses.

Imitrex should only be taken during a migraine attack. You should take the tablet with a full glass of water. Imitrex cannot treat headaches that result due to tension.
