Description of Macrodantin

Macrodantin is an antibiotic with the generic name nitrofurantoin. You can buy Macrodantin for the treatment of urinary tract infections. The drug works by fighting and killing the infection-causing bacteria.

Your doctor may also prescribe Macrodantin for other medical conditions. This medicine is available in the form of oral capsules, with the following dosage strengths- Macrodantin 25mg, Macrodantin 50mg and Macrodantin 100mg.

Indications & Dosage of Macrodantin

Macrodantin is specifically indicated for treating urinary tract infections that are caused by staphylococcus aureus, erterococci and Escherichia coli bacteria, apart from certain forms of bacteria that belong to the Enterobacter and Klebsiella species. Macrodantin is not indicated for treating perinephric abscesses or pyelonephritis.

The dosage and duration of treatment with Macrodantin would be determined by your doctor, and you must follow your doctor’s instructions exactly. Never take a dose that is larger than what has been prescribed, as it may result in an overdose.

Each capsule of Macrodantin must be taken along with water and food. You must continue taking Macrodantin for the prescribed duration, even if you feel better and your symptoms have cleared.

The recommended dosage of Macrodantin for adult patients is 50-100mg four times a day. In case of pediatric patients, the dosage is determined according to the patient’s weight. 5mg to 7mg of Macrodantin spread over four doses per day is usually prescribed for every kg of the child’s weight.
