Description of Mavik

Mavik is an ACE inhibitor with the generic name trandolapril. The term ACE is an acronym for angiotensin converting enzyme. This particular drug is known to lower resistance in blood vessels, which results in improved blood flow, cardiac output, stroke work, stroke volume and cardiac index.

You can buy Mavik in the form of oral tablets in the following different dose strengths- Mavik 1mg, Mavik 2mg and Mavik 4mg. You can only buy this drug if your doctor has prescribed it for you.

Indications & Dosage of Mavik

Mavik is indicated for the treatment of high blood pressure and for improving the chances of survival after a patient suffers a heart attack. Mavik may be prescribed along with other medications for treating hypertension.

Your doctor would determine the dosage and duration of treatment with Mavik. Never take this medicine at a dosage larger than what your doctor prescribed for you, as it may lead to an overdose. Your doctor may adjust your dose from time to time in order to get the best results from treatment.

You may take Mavik on a full or empty stomach. You must, however, be careful about taking this medication if you have conditions that may cause low blood pressure. Some of these conditions include low salt diets, dialysis, heart disease, sweating, diarrhea and vomiting. Your doctor may instruct you not to take certain liquids or limit the quantity of liquids while you are on Mavik.

You must inform your doctor if you suffer from vomiting or diarrhea. You must tell the doctor beforehand that you are taking Mavik if you planning to undergo a surgery.

Hypertension is a condition that may affect you for the rest of your life. Therefore, your doctor may tell you to take Mavik regularly for an indefinite period of time. You should always refill your prescription regularly in order to avoid problems later on.

Side Effects & Interactions of Mavik

Mavik may cause certain severe side effects, such as those given below:

• Reduced or no urination
• Tingling sensation or numbness in the mouth, muscle contraction or tightness, overactive reflexes, rapid heart rate, and other signs of low calcium levels
• Weak pulse, slow heart rate, tingling sensation, muscle weakness and other signs of high potassium levels
• Flu symptoms, like body aches and fever and chills
• Chest pain and breathing trouble
• Swelling and weight gain
• Shortness of breath, fainting

Mavik may also cause transient, mild side effects like those given below:

• Mild skin rashes or itching
• Diarrhea, stomach upset, constipation
• Sleeping trouble
• Drowsiness, dizziness, headache
• Muscle pain
• Coughing
• Cold symptoms, like sore throat and sneezing

A few drugs are known to interact with Mavik. Some of these drugs are mentioned below:

• Lithium
• Gold injections for treating arthritis
• Diuretics
• NSAIDs and aspirin

Warnings & Precautions of Mavik
