Description of Mirapex

Mirapex is a dopamine agonist, and its active ingredient is Pramipexole Dihydrochloride. You can buy Mirapex in the form of oral tablets.

Indications & Dosage of Mirapex

Mirapex is indicated for treating the symptoms of restless legs syndrome and idiopathic Parkinson’s disease. Such symptoms include shakiness, inability to move, stiffness, hampered movement, and unsteadiness. The drug works by producing effects similar to dopamine, a naturally occurring chemical inside the body.

If you are taking Mirapex to treat symptoms of Parkinson’s disease, your treatment will start with Mirapex 0.375mg per day. The drug is available in strengths of 1.5mg, 1mg, 0.5mg, 0.25mg and 0.125mg. The dosage recommended to you depends on the medical condition to be treated and your response to treatment. You may initially be given a smaller dose than required in order to avoid any serious side effects. The dosage can then be increased after a gap of 5 days depending on your response to the drug.

If you are using Mirapex to treat symptoms of restless legs syndrome, the treatment will start with Mirapex 0.125mg per day. Your doctor will advise you to take the tablet 2-3 hours before bedtime. The dosage can be increased afterwards, depending on your response to the treatment.

Side Effects & Interactions of Mirapex

Some common side effects associated with Mirapex include:

  • Stomach pain
  • Constipation
  • Dry mouth
  • Headache
  • Spinning sensation
  • Dizziness, mild drowsiness
  • Blurred vision
  • Swelling on the feet or hands
  • Insomnia
  • Amnesia, forgetfulness
  • Unusual dreams
  • Impotence, trouble having orgasm
  • Loss of interest in sex

Seek medical help immediately if you experience any of the following serious side effects of Mirapex:

  • Fainting
  • Hallucinations
  • Dry cough, chest discomfort
  • Muscle pain
  • Fast or uneven heartbeat
  • Loss of appetite
  • Tremors
  • Dark colored urine
  • Uncontrollable movements of the tongue, eyes, legs, arms, lips or face

Your doctor will not recommend you to buy Mirapex if you are already taking drugs such as thioridazine, thiothixene, haloperidol, flupphenazine, chlorpromazine, promethazine, metoclopramide, verapamil, triamterene, quinine, quinidine, ranitidine, diltiazem, cimetidine or amantadine. As Mirapex causes dizziness, do not take it along with medicines such as sleeping pills, sedatives, narcotic pain relievers, muscle relaxants, antidepressants, anti-anxiety medications, anti-seizure drugs, or cold and allergy medicines. In addition to these, inform your doctor about all the prescription and non-prescription drugs you are taking at present, including herbal products and diet supplements.

Warnings & Precautions of Mirapex

Special tests and dosage adjustments will be needed if you are suffering from kidney disease, uncontrolled muscle movements, tremors, or low blood pressure.

You may have increased sexual urges or an unusual urge to gamble during Mirapex treatment. It would be better to keep a watch on such situations.

Mirapex may cause extreme dizziness. You may fall off to sleep suddenly even if you were completely alert a few minutes ago. Therefore, avoid driving a vehicle or doing any such activity immediately after taking a dose, as a serious accident may take place. Also limit alcohol intake during Mirapex treatment, as it may worsen the side effect of dizziness.
