Description of Mobic

Mobic is listed as a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug or NSAID. Like other drugs of its category, Mobic is also used for reducing inflammation and inflammation-related symptoms. The generic name of this drug is Meloxicam.

Mobic is meant for oral administration only. You can buy Mobic in form of oral tablets or oral suspension. The oral tablets are available in two strengths, Mobic 7.5 mg or Mobic 15 mg. The oral suspension is available in only one strength, Mobic 7.5 mg/ml.

The following inert ingredients are present in the oral tablets: colloidal silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate, crospovidone, microcrystalline cellulose, sodium citrate dihydrate, lactose monohydrate, and povidone.

The following inert ingredients are present in the oral suspension: hydroxyethylcellulose, xylitol, colloidal silicon dioxide, glycerol, sorbitol, sodium benzoate, monobasic sodium phosphate, raspberry flavor, purified water, citric acid, and saccharin sodium.

Indications & Dosage of Mobic

Mobic is used for treating inflammation within the joints, pain, swelling, and tenderness associated with osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. Certain naturally-occurring chemicals, prostaglandins, cause inflammation and inflammation-related symptoms such as pain, swelling, and tenderness. Mobic works by blocking the activity of the enzymes that produce prostaglandins. Reduced levels of prostaglandins, in turn, helps reduce inflammation and pain.

The recommended daily dosage for adult arthritis patients is Mobic 7.5 mg. If required, a higher daily dose, not exceeding 15 mg/day, may be administered if adequate improvement is not seen with the daily dose of 7.5 mg.

The recommended daily dosage for juveniles is Mobic 0.125 mg/kg/day. Oral suspension may be administered to children who are unable to take the drug in capsule form.
