Description of Multaq

The active ingredient in Multaq is Dronedarone. It is an antiarrhythmic drug that affects heart rhythm. You can buy Multaq in the form of oral tablets.

Indications & Dosage of Multaq

Multaq is given to patients with irregular heartbeat, such as persistent or paroxysmal atrial flutter or atrial fibrillation. It helps in reducing the need for hospitalization due to heart problems and normalizes heart rhythm. It can also be given to patients with high risk factors, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, history of stroke, or patients over 70 years of age.

Adult patients are advised to take Multaq 400mg twice a day. Take one tablet with the morning meal and another tablet with the evening meal.

Mild stomach pain, upset stomach, diarrhea, mild skin redness or rash, weakness or tiredness can be commonly experienced by Multaq patients.   • Fainting, severe dizziness, pounding heartbeat

  • Difficulty breathing while lying down

Some medicines may interact with Multaq, if taken together without medical consultation. Such drugs include:

  • Blood thinners (e.g. warfarin)
  • Tuberculosis drugs
  • Beta blockers (e.g. atenolol or metoprolol)
  • Cholesterol lowering drugs (e.g. cholestyramine or lovastatin)
  • Blood pressure or heart medicines (e.g. amlodipine or nifedipine)
  • Anti-seizure medicines (e.g. carbamazepine or phenytoin)
  • Drugs such as cyclosporine, digoxin, theophylline, St. John’s wort or sirolimus

Warnings & Precautions of Multaq

You should not buy Multaq if you have a certain kind of heart failure, including NYHA Class IV heart failure. For this, contact your doctor immediately if you develop swelling of the ankles or feet, unusual tiredness, unusual weight gain, wheezing or shortness of breath during Multaq treatment.

Multaq is not meant to be used by pregnant women, as it may cause birth defects or fatal harm to the unborn child.
