Description of Orbax
Orbax is used to treat bacterial infections, especially those involving Pseudomonas in dogs and cats. The generic name of the medicine is Orbifloxacin.
You must buy Orbax as per the directions of your veterinarian. Read all the instructions carefully on the leaflet before administering the drug. If you have any doubt, ask the doctor or the pharmacist. Give plenty of water to your pet before administering Orbax. Don’t give the tablet with food. Don’t give any dairy products to your pet at least two hours before giving the tablet. Orbax is only for animals. Don’t administer Orbax in humans.
Indications & Dosage of Orbax
Orbax blocks the ability of bacteria to make DNA and thereby kills them.
The dosage of Orbax depends on the medical condition of the animal and the response to treatment. The recommended dosage of the drug is one tablet per day. The drug must be administered only in adult, young, healthy dogs and cats. You must follow the instructions of the doctor carefully while administering the drug. You must not give Orbax in excess or for a longer time than prescribed by the vet. Don’t give the medicine to other pets or animals as it may harm them. Don’t stop or change the dosage before consulting the veterinarian. Talk to your veterinarian if the condition of your pet doesn’t improve after it is given Orbax for a long time. Don’t give an overdose of Orbax, as it may lead to severe or even life-threatening problems for your pet. In case of an overdose, seek immediate medical attention for your pet.
You must always store Orbax at room temperature at around 25 degrees Celsius. Keep it away from moisture, direct light and heat. Make sure that the drug is kept away from the reach of children and pets.
Side Effects & Interactions of Orbax
The common side effects of Orbax are:
- Nausea and vomiting
- Facial edema
- Loss of appetite
- Dizziness and nervousness
- Problems with vision such as dilated pupils
If the serious side effects persist, stop the medication and contact the doctor at the earliest.
The following drugs may interact with Orbax:
- Medications that contain aluminum, zinc and iron
You must tell the doctor about all the previous and present medications that include over-the-counter medications, herbal products and dietary supplements you are giving/have given to your pet, before you buy Orbax for your pet.
Warnings & Precautions of Orbax
You must not buy Orbax if your pet has:
- An allergy to any of the ingredients in it
- Central Nervous System disorder
- Epilepsy and seizures
- A history of kidney or liver diseases
You must not administer Orbax in younger animals, especially in larger breeds under 18 months of age and medium breed dogs between the age of 2 and 8 moths. You must inform your veterinarian if your pet is pregnant or lactating before you buy Orbax.
